The electoral rolls or list of voters is the basic document on which the conduct of free and fair elections largely depends. The Election Commission prepared electoral rolls for Local Government Elections, 2008.
Since the qualifying age of voter for Local Government Elections and General Elections differ, it is necessary to prepare fresh electoral rolls.
The first draft of the electoral rolls was, thus, prepared and got verified through 96,000 enumerators and supervisors by house to house visit of 1,90,00,000 households. These rolls will be published by Registration Officers after inviting claims, objections and applications for rectification.
The Revising Authorities appointed for the purpose of adjudicating these claims and objections etc will decide the matters.Their decision will be given effect to by Registration Officers before the final printing and publication of the electoral rolls.
